First diesel to win Le Mans overall.

In 2009, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP did what no diesel had done before:

won the 24 Heures du Mans outright.

Not in class. Overall.

A 5.5-litre V12 twin-turbo diesel. Common rail injection at 2000 bar. A silicon-carbide particulate filter (FAP) that rewrote what a race engine could endure. 650 hp at 4500 rpm. 1100 Nm at 3000 rpm. An Xtrac 6-speed sequential. 900 kg.

Peugeot. Total. Michelin. All French.

The crowd at Mulsanne heard the Michelins before the engine.

The exhaust tip — a single Inconel 625 nozzle exiting through the diffuser centerline — glowed blue, purple, gold. Zero smoke. Zero sound from the pipe. Only heat distortion on French asphalt.

#9. Victoire.

FAP — Technical Cutaway Poster

Image: Complete exhaust system cutaway — tip face through diffuser, FAP canister (SiC honeycomb), Inconel 625 piping, twin-scroll BorgWarner turbine — single vertical plane, ground-level perspective

This is not a spec sheet.

It is the thermal proof that a diesel won Le Mans.

The blue-purple-gold gradient on the Inconel tip is the tricolor written in heat.
