They did not look at other racing cars for inspiration.

They looked at the blueprints of supersonic interceptors.

Forged inside the defense hangars of a French aerospace giant, the Matra V12 was a tactical air-to-air weapon trapped on the asphalt.

This schematic unseals the secret corridor between Cold War rocketry and endurance motorsport, revealing an absolute, unbroken transfer of military technology.

At the nose, the glass-fiber radome that once housed the radar-seeking cores of the R530 missile was laid up by the exact same technicians, utilizing the identical molds, to sculpt the ultra-thin composite nosecone of the 210-mph race car.

Beneath the skin, the automotive frame was entirely erased.

Matra treated the cockpit tub like a pressurized rocket hull. High-tensile aluminum sheets were fused using advanced aerospace structural adhesives before the rivets were struck — forming a leak-proof monocoque wall strong enough to transform the hollow chassis itself into a fuel cell.

And the Matra's load paths? Just as the internal stamped-alloy bulkheads of the missile absorbed the violent thrust of its solid-fuel rocket motor, the MS670B engineered its howling 3.0-litre V12 engine as a fully stressed structural member.

Bolted directly to the rear firewall with the precise rivet pitch of a fighter jet, the engine block bore the brutal cornering forces of the circuit, transferring the energy directly through the metallic skin.

They didn't build a car to fit the regulations of a track. They modified a missile to outrun time itself.
